Free Case Review Urban VPN Data Harvesting Claims
Your "Free VPN" May Have Been Spying on You
Urban VPN, 1ClickVPN, and Urban Browser Guard promised privacy. Security researchers say they did the opposite, quietly capturing private AI conversations and browsing activity from over 8 million users and sending it to servers tied to a data broker. If you installed one of these extensions before June 25, 2025, you may be owed compensation.

What Happened
Extensions Marketed as Privacy Tools Were Doing the Opposite
In December 2025, security researchers published findings that a family of free browser extensions operated by Urban Cyber Security was capturing users' private AI chat conversations, including prompts and responses on platforms like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, and transmitting that data to company servers. The collection ran in the background whether or not the VPN was turned on, could not be switched off in settings, and the data was allegedly shared with a data broker. These are the six extensions involved:
Chrome
Urban VPN Proxy
The flagship extension with over 6 million users and a "Featured" badge on the Chrome Web Store.
Chrome
1ClickVPN Proxy
A separate VPN extension from the same publisher that carried the same data collection code.
Chrome
Urban Browser Guard
Marketed as a browser security tool, yet included the identical harvesting functionality.
Microsoft Edge
Urban VPN Proxy
The Edge version of the flagship extension, with over a million additional installs.
Microsoft Edge
1ClickVPN Proxy
The Edge version of 1ClickVPN, sharing the same surveillance backend.
Microsoft Edge
Urban Browser Guard
The Edge version of the security tool, also included in the researchers' findings.

Common Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Urban VPN lawsuit about?
Security researchers found that Urban VPN Proxy and related browser extensions were collecting users' private AI chat conversations and browsing activity and sending that data to company servers, where it was allegedly shared with a data broker. The claims center on the collection of this private data without meaningful consent, by products marketed as privacy tools.
Which extensions are involved?
Urban VPN Proxy, 1ClickVPN Proxy, and Urban Browser Guard, on both Chrome and Microsoft Edge. All six carried the same data collection code according to the researchers.
Do I need proof that I installed the extension?
A screenshot of the extension in your browser is the easiest form of proof, and our intake form lets you upload one directly. If you already removed the extension, you may still qualify. Complete the form and we will walk you through it.
How much does this cost?
Nothing out of pocket. The case review is free and any representation is on a contingency basis, which means fees only come out of a recovery if there is one. If there is no recovery, you owe nothing.
What data was collected?
According to security researchers, the extensions captured full conversations with AI platforms such as ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini, including both prompts and responses, along with browsing data tied to persistent identifiers. The collection ran continuously in the background, even when the VPN was disconnected.
What happens after I submit the form?
Your submission is reviewed within 24 to 48 hours. If you qualify, you will be contacted to confirm your details and complete next steps. There is no obligation and your information stays confidential.
